BACKGROUND Increasing studies have shown the important clinical role of immune and stromal cells in gastric cancer microenvironment. Based on information of immune and stromal cells in The Cancer Genome Atlas, this study aimed to construct a prognostic risk assessment model for gastric cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Based on the immune/structural scores, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were filtered and analyzed. Afterwards, DEGs associated with prognosis were screened and the risk assessment model was constructed in the training set. Moreover, the validity of the model was verified both in the testing set and the overall sample. RESULTS In this study, patients were divided into high-score and low-score groups based on immune/stromal score, and 919 DEGs were identified. By applying least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox analysis, 10 mRNAs were selected to form a prognostic risk assessment model, risk score=(0.294*SLC17A9) + (-0.477*FERMT3) + (0.866*NRP1) + (0.350*MMRN1) + (0.381*RNASE1) + (0.189*TRIB3) + (0.230*PGAP3) + (0.087*MAGEA3) + (0.182*TACR2) + (0.368*CYP51A1). In the training set, the low-risk group divided by the model was found to have better overall survival, and the prediction efficiency of the model was demonstrated to be good. Multivariate Cox analysis indicated that the model could work as a prognostic factor independently. Similar results were shown in the testing group and overall patients cohort group. Finally, the risk assessment model and other clinical variables were integrated to construct a nomogram. CONCLUSIONS In general, this study constructs a prognostic risk assessment model for gastric cancer, which could improve the prognosis stratification of patients combined with other clinical indicators.BACKGROUND Hepatic hydatid cysts is a cystic disease of the liver caused by echinococcosis. Echinococcosis usually forms a monolocular cyst and causes space occupying effect, while alveolar echinococcosis often progresses into a polycystic mass that dilates into the adjacent liver parenchyma, with different clinical manifestations. In clinical practice, hepatic hydatid cyst and simple cyst are generally diagnosed clearly, but there are still misdiagnosed cases. CASE REPORT A 40-year-old female patient with no symptoms had a computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging examination that revealed multiple round-like shadows of varying sizes in her liver. Combined with the laboratory and imaging results, the diagnosis was considered as hepatic hemangioma and hepatic cyst. Therefore, we planned to perform ultrasound guided microwave ablation of hepatic hemangioma and laparoscopic fenestration of hepatic cyst. Considering the possibility of hepatic hydatid cysts during the operation, partial hepatectomy was performed. CONCLUSIONS More attention should be paid to the differential diagnosis of cystic space occupying lesions in the liver. For the treatment of hepatic cyst, if suspected, must change the surgical strategy.Noncompressible hemorrhage remains a high-mortality injury, and aortic balloon occlusion poses limitations in terms of distal ischemic injury. Our hypothesis was that a retrievable Rescue stent would confer improved outcome over aortic balloon occlusion.
A three-tier, retrievable stent graft was laser welded from nitinol and polytetrafluoroethylene to provide rapid thoracic and abdominal coverage with an interval bare metal segment to preserve visceral flow. Anesthetized swine had injury of the thoracic or abdominal aorta followed by balloon occlusion or a Rescue stent. A 1-hour long damage-control phase with blood repletion was used to simulate the prolonged interval between injury and repair, especially in the battlefield setting. Following the damage-control phase, the balloon or stent were retrieved followed by vascular repair and recovery to 48 hours. Animals were compared in terms of hemodynamics, blood loss, neurophysiologic spinal cord ischemia, ischemic organ injury, and survival.

Compared with aortic balloon occlusion, a Rescue stent offers superior hemorrhage control and survival by virtue of reduced ischemic injury and direct control of the hemorrhagic injury. The Rescue stent may become a useful tool for damage control, especially on the battlefield where definitive repair presents logistical challenges.The aims of this study were to determine and improve accuracy of the Broselow Tape (BT) in estimating children's weight by adding body habitus parameters.
This cross-sectional study was conducted in an urban hospital pediatric clinic. The following body habitus parameters were measured using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines actual weight, predicted weight using BT (BTW), mid-thigh circumference (MTC), body mass index, mid-arm circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio.
A total of 301 children were enrolled. Of these, 151 were male (50%). Hispanics constituted 160 (53.2%). There was a positive linear association between BTW and actual weight in the overall cohort (adjusted R = 0.9164, P &lt; 0.001). However, there was a difference in this association among children younger than 2 years and children older than 2 years (adjusted R = 0.89 vs 0.4841). Incorporating MTC and/or waist circumference along with BTW in the model increased the accuracy, providing a better estimate of actual weight (adjusted R = 0.94, P &lt; 0.001).
We conclude that there might be inaccuracies in the weight predicted by BT in our patient population, especially those weighing more than 15 kg and older than 2 years. Our study also demonstrates that MTC correlates closely with the actual weight and could be used in addition to BT for more accurate weight estimation.
